Victoria Principal is currently the co-chair of Victory Over Violence. Established in 1995, Victory Over Violence is a coalition of representatives from the entertainment industry, business, and government who have come together to enhance public awareness of domestic violence and increase services and resources available to victims. VOV also serves as the Community Advisory Board of the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Council.

VOV mission
The mission of Victory Over Violence is twofold. First, we want to increase public awareness of domestic violence issues by:

  • Producing educational and informational materials such as brochures, domestic violence prevention and safety handbooks, and other materials for distribution to the general public and particularly to domestic violence victims.
  • Publicizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) through press conferences and other events.
  • Producing press releases and public service announcements through various media to increase public awareness. These can occur throughout the year, but are used especially during the holidays.
Secondly, our mission is to raise funds to support services to victims of domestic violence. To do that, we:
  • Hold fund-raising events each year, seeking corporate and individual sponsorship, participation, and contributions. These are high-profile events, attended by the celebrity members of our Honorary Council, and include film premieres and special showings, and family events at outdoor venues. Two or more are held during the year.
  • Prepare and submit request for appropriate grant funding, to secure funds for services and programs for domestic violence victims.

VOV-funded programs

  • Visiting nurses visit domestic violence shelters weekly to provide basic medical care and advice to shelter residents and their children.
  • Arts-related programs for children in shelters offer uprooted and often traumatized children the opportunity to learn to express themselves through the creative process.
  • Grants are given to domestic violence shelters to assist with the ongoing expenses involved in operating domestic violence shelters throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Reconstructive surgery is provided free of charge to victims of domestic violence who have scars and other damage resulting from violence.
  • A variety of other programs are developed and implemented as needed to assist victims of domestic violence in overcoming the violence and making better lives for themselves and their children.
